AN ANATOMICAL PORTRAIT
A sculptural portrait starting with a generic male skull, building in the underlying tissues and culminating with the finer details (texturing the skin, refining the features, adding hair, etc); painstakingly working up to a likeness by understanding the underlying elements which create expression and individuality.
This piece was produced at Alan Stott's reconstruction portrait workshop.

The First Stage
Putting the eyes into their sockets, adding eyelids and lips, building the basic cartilage of the nose, and starting the process of laying in the muscles and fat which underlie the skin and give the face its individual look.

The Second Stage
Finishing the installation of muscles, fat, glands, etc. Beginning to sculpt the lips and nose into a likeness of the subject. Shaping the subcutaneous fat into the contours of the subject's face, using photographs for reference.

The Third Stage
Putting on the skin and moulding it into the underlying structure of muscles, fat and bone. Adding the details which create the unique look of the individual.
